We want to take you on a multi-article journey. We will share what we have learned about excellence in the early stages of out-of-the-box innovation.
In other words, showing you what to do (and what to avoid) when you want to commercialize new technology and/or you want to create new businesses. Which methods you need, what Leadership support and how the experts form today’s business should work together with the innovators who create tomorrow’s businesses.
The first member of ‘We’ is Lean Scaleup’s Frank Mattes. I have been working in innovation for over 30 years. For the last 5 years, my focus has been on helping companies build new businesses from within. I realized that many companies struggle with this.
Large corporations and SMEs know they need to innovate, but they often don’t know where to start or how to break away from their old business and mental models – and they are afraid to fail.
That’s why I joined forces with leading companies and world-class business schools to create a solution called Lean Scaleup. This framework helps companies overcome these challenges and take the steps they need to succeed in building new businesses.
The second member of ‘We’ is Dr. Hüseyin Güler. Hüseyin has been working on technology and innovation for more than 25 years since he read Alvin Toffler’s book ‘The Third Wave’. He strongly believes that a unique innovation model will emerge. For 9 years, Hüseyin has implemented many projects at Kastamonu Entegre with the motto ‘we need volunteers, not supermen for innovation’.
Despite being in the traditional sector, Kastamonu Entegre has been among Turkey’s Innovation Champions for the last three years in a row. But, Hüseyin is certain that the company can do much better. Other companies can do it too.
We are taking a step.
Our mission with this initiative is to help Turkish companies make a leap in disruptive innovations. There is only one Turkish company in the Global Fortune 500.
The total revenue of the 500 largest companies is around 250 billion Euros. In terms of innovation capability, the country ranks 37th globally.
Starting a wave of innovation in Turkish companies requires a new approach that includes cultural, educational, financial and infrastructural aspects of innovation.
Istanbul, Turkey’s financial and cultural center, is the best place for such an initiative. Therefore, our first focus will be on companies in Istanbul. That is why our initiative is called Istanbul Innovation Wave.
